William "Billy" Matthews Obituary

William L. “Billy” Matthews, 85, husband of Marjorie Locklair Matthews, died Friday, June 24, 2022, at his residence, Coward.

Mr. Matthews was born on July 13, 1936, in Coward, son of the late James P. Matthews and Rosie Parrott Matthews. He was a member of Sand Hill Free Will Baptist Church and a life-long farmer. Mr. Matthews loved the Lord and was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.

Surviving in addition to this wife of 65 years, Marjorie Locklair Matthews, are his children, Jimmy “Bird Dog” (Vivian) Matthews, William “Dillon” (Valarie) Matthews, Debbie (Ernest Davis) Springs, all of Coward, and Melisa (Allen) Whittington of Florence; son-in-law, George Lynch of Coward; 16 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren.

Mr. Matthews was preceded in death by a daughter, Brenda Lynch and brother, Delbert “Hank” Matthews.

Funeral services will be 4:00 PM, Sunday, June 26, 2022 at Carolina Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow at Matthews Cemetery, Coward.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to McLeod Hospice House, 1203 E. Cheves Street, Florence, SC 29506.
