George Sheldon Filyaw, 61, husband of Anne Filyaw, died Wednesday, April 28, 2021, at Lake City Community Hospital.
Sheldon was born on August 24, 1959 in Florence County, son of the late J.C. “Coolidge” Filyaw and Lillie Belle Driggers Filyaw. He was a member of Floyd Chapel Pentecostal Holiness Church and led the church choir for several years. Sheldon was a 1977 graduate of Salem High School and was a graduate of Florence – Darlington Technical College and retired with over 30 years in electrical engineering.
Surviving is his wife of 30 years, Marguerite Anne Threet Filyaw; children, Kaycee (Brent) Bennett and Adrianna (Collin) Lee, both of Lake City; grandchildren, Kayden Carter, Grooms Bennett, Lily Jane Bennett, Lillie Cooper Bennett, Marley James Bennett and Lewison Lee; siblings, Charles (Debbie) Filyaw of Cades, Carlisle (Susan) Filyaw of Barnwell, Douglas (Marie) Filyaw of Cades and Lynn (Todd) Floyd of Kingstree; nieces, Jami (Tripp) Carter, Amanda (Brandon) Floyd, Erin (Josh) Pierce, Katie Filyaw and her fiancé, Byron Coker and Eliska (Daniel) Manny; nephews, Kyle (Ashley) Floyd, Jeffeory (Katie) Threet; great nephews, Charlie Franklin Floyd, Colby James Floyd, Brody Threet, Bryce Threet and Grayson Manny; great niece, Dalton Rose Manny; mother-in-law, Patricia Threet of Florence; brother-in-law, Gene (Mary Rose) Threet of Dalton, GA.
Sheldon was preceded in death by a daughter, Candice Joye Filyaw.
Sheldon greatly valued his family and friends. He was loved and adored by all of his family, but his wife and daughters believed he hung the moon. His four siblings were his very best friends. He was an avid farmer, gardener, hunter, fisherman and chef. He was famous for his bright smile, love of making people laugh, his hamburger dip, and his favorite holiday past time of frying chickens and turkey.
The family would like to extend a special “Thank You” to McLeod Physician Associates of Turbeville, especially Amanda McConnell, Lake City Community Hospital Staff, especially Dr. Toney Graham & Shawn Lockamy, and Amedisys Hospice Staff for their care and love during this time.
Funeral services will be 4:00 PM, Friday, April 30, 2021 at Floyd Chapel Pentecostal Holiness Church. Burial, directed by Carolina Funeral Home, will follow at Broad Swamp Pentecostal Holiness Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 3:00 – 4:00 PM, Friday, April 30, 2021, at Floyd Chapel Pentecostal Holiness Church, Lake City and other times at 585 Kirby Road, Cades.
