Mary Elizabeth "Libby" Barber Obituary

Mrs. Mary Elizabeth “Libby” Barber, 75, wife of George Barber, passed away on Friday, March 29, 2024, at McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence.

Mrs. Barber was born on May 10, 1948, in Florence County, daughter of the late James C. Braveboy and Elfreda “Freda” Thomas Johns. Mrs. Libby worked in banking for over 40 years. She loved to cut grass, gardening and flowers. Mrs. Libby and her husband, George,  enjoyed mission work in Haiti. She always cared for people by bringing them food and cakes. Mrs. Barber was a member of Tabernacle Free Will Baptist Church. She served as a Sunday School Teacher for 50 years. She loved her family, and enjoyed beach vacations with them, loved her church, was honest and humble. Mrs. Libby’s love for others showed when she became a loving caregiver for Eli Cox for the past 6 years. The Cox family quickly became a second family to Libby and George.

Surviving are her husband of 33 years, George Barber; children, Lori Horton of Mt. Pleasant, Brian (Claudia) Floyd of Lake City, Lisa Kicklighter of Patterson, GA and Kristi (David) Bird of Lilburn, GA; grandchildren, Dawson Floyd, John Ingram Horton, IV, Madison Elizabeth Floyd, Mary Catherine Horton, Kolby (John) Williams, Trae (Erin) Kicklighter, Avery (Courtney) Guy, Jatin (Mary Kate) Yarbrough, Liliann Bird, Kella (Dave) Bell; great grandchildren, Emmy Kicklighter, Braelyn Guy, River Anne Yarbrough, Anniston Guy, Liza Kate Bell and Cason Bell; many nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Barber was preceded in death by a brother, Jimmy Braveboy; sister, Shirley Evans.

Funeral services will be 11:00 AM, Monday, April 1, 2024, at Tabernacle Free Will Baptist Church, with burial to follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM, Monday, April 1, 2024, at the church.
