James Wilbert “Jake” Lee, 91, husband of the late Jeanette Myers Lee, passed away peacefully, Monday, May 2, 2022 at his home in Effingham.
Mr. Lee was born on September 22, 1930, in Florence County, son of the late Delton Lee and Gaynelle Huff Lee. Mr. Lee was a veteran of the United States Army, where he served in the Korean War. He married the late Jeanette Myers Lee in 1955 and he lived in the Friendfield community his entire life. Jake retired from Dupont and was a life-long farmer. He was an active member of Hebron Baptist Church, until his health declined, where he formerly served as a deacon, Sunday school superintendent and chairman of the Hebron Cemetery Committee. Mr. Lee served as a Florence County School District 2 board member.
Surviving are his brothers, Delton (Innie) Lee, Jr. of Lexington and Arnold Lamar (Carolyn) Lee of Jacksonville, FL; numerous nieces and nephews, a special niece, Jackie Cribb of Effingham; special great niece, Kristina Cribb of Effingham; special great nephew, Al Cribb of Effingham; sisters-in-law, Rita Craft Lee of Lexington and Nancy Lee of Darlington; brother-in-law, James Jeffcoat of Lexington; special friend, Libby Morris of Lake City.
Mr. Lee was preceded in death by a son, John Donald Lee; sisters, Beatrice “Bea” Lee Davis, Nell Lee Rinesmith, Carolyn Joyce Lee, Gertrude Lee Shirey and Wanda Lee Jeffcoat; brothers, Garvin Earnest Lee, Sr, Raymond Baron “RB” Lee, Newell “Nink” Lee, Larry “Buddy” Lee and Buster Finish Lee.
Funeral services will be 11:00 AM, Thursday, May 5, 2022 at Hebron Baptist Church, Scranton, with burial to follow at church cemetery with military honors.
The family will receive friends, 6:00 – 8:00 PM, Wednesday, May 4, 2022 at Carolina Funeral Home.
