Hilda Eleanor Chisholm Evans, 81, wife of Clarence Maxie Evans, passed away Monday, January 23, 2023 at MUSC Medical Center, Charleston.
Mrs. Evans was born on December 17, 1941, in Candon, NC, daughter of the late Earl Chisholm and Sybil Cole Chisholm. She grew up in Eagle Springs, NC and graduated from Eagle Springs High School in 1960 and East Carolina University with a teaching degree. Hilda married her best friend, Max Evans, June 30, 1973. They had one child, Shea Trent Evans in September 1975. Hilda worked in the education field for 32 years. Her students loved her, and they enjoyed her classes in Business Education and Home Economics. Hilda enjoyed: cooking, economics, her bridge group, music, beach vacations and traveling. She was an active and very dedicated member of Pamplico First Baptist Church, where she was also a member of the church choir for many years. Hilda was a very devoted wife, mother and grandmother and was the matriarch of our family. Her butterbeans, rice, rutabagas, and poundcake were the best in the south, and she will be greatly missed each and every day.
Surviving are her husband of 49 years, Clarence Maxie Evans of Pamplico; son, Shea Trent (Marianna) Evans of Florence; grandchildren, Andrew Evans, Maria Evans and Gerard Evans, all of Florence; sister, Diane (Wayne) Haithcock of Raleigh, NC; sister-in-law, Carole Evans (Al) Dubber of Youngsville, NC; nieces, Amanda Mackie Rambo and Heather Haithcock (Scott) Gordon, both of Raleigh, NC; nephew, Tyler Haithcock of Clayton, NC; 7 grandnieces and grandnephews.
Funeral services will be 11:00 AM, Saturday, January 28, 2023 at Pamplico First Baptist Church, with burial to follow at Woodside Cemetery, Pamplico.
The family will receive friends 5:30 – 7:30 PM, Friday, January 27, 2023 at Carolina Funeral Home.
