Capers "Bunny" Wilbur Matthews

Mr. Capers Wilbur “Bunny” Matthews, 74, passed away Friday, March 22, 2024, at McLeod Regional Medical Center of the Pee Dee.

Mr. Matthews was born on March 30, 1949, in Scranton, son of the late Junior Matthews and Trella Mae Byrd Matthews. He was a farmer for McCall Farms and Bussy Poston Farms. He was a simple man, enjoyed the farm life of living and chickens. While a resident at the nursing home, he had a small garden and enjoyed bird feeders. He was always a good friend and will be missed.

Surviving are his sister, Elaine (Marion) Eaddy of Effingham; brother, Sammie (Renee) Matthews of Pamplico; four nieces, Karen (Dennis) Stroble of Scranton, Vicki (Martin) Gamez of Scranton, Chelsie Matthews of Coward and Caitlin Matthews of Pamplico; three nephews, Dean Coward of Columbia, Chad (Jill) Eaddy of Florence and Nick Matthews of Pamplico.

Mr. Matthews was preceded in death by maternal grandparents, Capers & Louise McKnight Byrd; paternal grandparents, Eddie & Mary Matthews; brother-in-law, Robert Coward; sister, Mamie Matthews Coward.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Monday, March 25, 2024, at Carolina Funeral Home.

Graveside services will be 11:00 AM, Tuesday, March 26, 2024, at Hicks Cemetery, Coward.
