Sergeant First Class Alvia L Posser Sr., USA, Retired 82, died peacefully in his home on May 15, 2022.
Alvia was a decorated veteran who served 4 tours in the Vietnam War.
Alvia was born on April 8, 1940, to his parents, Fleetwood Prosser and Sara (Robert E.) McKnight. In 1957, he joined the United States Armed Forces. Alvia’s greatest devotion was to the Military. During his time, he served in the U.S. Air Force, U.S. Army, and as an U.S. Army Recruiter. He was in the 3rd Special Forces Group, Ft. Bragg NC, 8th Special Forces Group, Panama, & 5th Special Forces Group Vietnam. For his service he received numerous medals and was awarded the Purple Heart for a wound sustained in combat.
Sgt. Prosser was a brave and loyal soldier, as well as a loving Husband and Father. He married Laverne Sewell in 1969. The two have been married for 53 years and are a true example of unconditional love.
He is survived by his wife, Laverne Sewell Prosser; son, Ed (Linda) Cason; daughter, Trina (Gary) Lawrimore; son, Robert (Louise) Cason, Son, Alvia (Beth) Prosser Jr.; daughter, Janet (Bryan) Yoder, seven grandchildren, six great grandchildren; brother, Nathan Prosser.
He is predeceased by his granddaughter, Alison Prosser and brother, Jimmy Prosser.
Graveside service, with full military honors, will be 3:00 PM, Thursday, May 19, 2022, at Scranton United Methodist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 PM, Wednesday, May 18, 2022, at Carolina Funeral Home, Scranton.
